Justin Bieber added another accolade, of sorts, to his list when he was named Wednesday as the planet's third most powerful celebrity on the Forbes Top 100 Powerful Celebrity List. Last year the Canadian pop singer debuted on the list in the same spot.
Forbes takes into account such things as earnings, through the proverbial roof for them all, and their profile in the media and their social media counts. To hit number three Bieber is listed with $55 million in yearly earnings - yes, you read that correctly (only 24th on the money-earning list) - along with 21 million Twitter followers and 43 million Facebook fans.
Forbes Celebrity Top 100
On the strength of her gig on 'American Idol', Jennifer Lopez is in the top spot this year, bumping Lady Gaga, who, despite releasing her album 'Born This Way' and embarking on yet another massive world tour, fell to the number 5 spot. Oprah Winfrey, who reportedly made $165 million (yeah, she's ranked first there) repeats in the number 2 spot; she was first in 2010.
Here's the complete Top Ten: Lopez, Winfrey, Bieber,. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian (what does she do, exactly?), Katy Perry, Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg. Not surprisingly the 18-year-old Bieber is the youngest on that list, with the age difference between him and number 10, the 65-year-old film director Spielberg, is 47 years.
Bieber is known for contributing to a multitude of positive causes with the power and money that he now has, including Pencils for Promise, Children's Miracle Wish Foundation, anti-text and driving campaigns and anti-bullying campaigns. Recently he gave a percentage of royalties to his song 'Turn to You' to a funding drive for a pregnant women's shelter in London, Ont., the same shelter his mother spent time in while pregnant with him.
