Police in Windsor, Ontario are still waiting for a thief to pass a diamond through his body after he allegedly swallowed the precious item last week.
According to police, Richard Mackenzie Matthews, 52, is alleged to have switched a diamond at Precision Jewellers and swallowed the real one, as CTV reports.
Matthews is being held at police headquarters while they wait for the 1.7-carat stone to pass through his system. "Sgt. Brett Corey says Matthews has gone to the washroom numerous times, but the diamond hasn't passed," CTV adds.
The man and his lawyer are co-operating with police and he is taking laxatives and other "fluids that assist in bowel movements." Apart from that he’s eating regular food.
The Montreal Gazette adds if police recover the diamond from where they think it is (his intestines?), he will likely also be charged with possession of stolen property.
"Police have made an application to extend the amount of time they can keep him in custody in hopes the diamond will reveal itself," the Windsor Star writes.
