On Sunday morning more than forty dead bodies were found along a highway in Mexico. The bodies were mutilated and decapitated.
49 mutated bodies were discovered along a Mexican highway that connects the metropolis of Monterrey to the United States border.
According to SMH, Adrian de la Garza, the Nuevo Leon state Attorney-General, said that the possibility of the victims being migrants bound to the US was not being ruled out but organized crime groups have left bodies in public places before.
According to CNN, Jorge Domene, a Nuevo Leon's state security spokesman, said that the attack on the victims was not an attack aimed at civilians. Domene also said that it looks as if the victims were murdered a day or two ago. He added that the victims seemed to have been killed elsewhere and then the bodies were dropped off.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Domene also said that some of the victims had images of Holy Death tattooed on their bodies. Domene said that Holy Death is worshiped by many in Mexico's criminal underworld.
Police did not immediately comment on why the attack was carried out or who carried out the massacre.
Sunday morning's massacre follows the butchering of 18 people that took place last Wednesday. The viticms were discovered by the city of Guadalajara, which is a popular destination among Canadian and U.S. retirees.
