The Ministry of Defence has said that two British servicemen have been shot dead in southern Afghanistan by Afghan police.
The
BBC reported that one victim was an airman from the Royal Air Force, the other a soldier from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.
A spokesman for the Helmand provincial police said the two men were killed when Afghan police opened fire at a joint Afghan-coalition compound, the
Telegraph reported. A police spokesman said the gunmen had been members of the Afghan National Police for a year.
However, according to the
Daily Mail, NATO said that operational reports indicated that the assailants were in fact insurgents dressed in police uniforms.
The two deaths came one day after a NATO soldier was shot dead by an assailant wearing an Afghan police uniform.
