A bullied gay teen from Indianapolis has been expelled from school after firing a stun gun on school property. The bullied victim's mother said that she gave him the stun gun to protect himself.
Darnell Young, the teen in question, did not have bad intentions. The teen was approached by six fellow students who threatened to beat him up. The student fired shots in the air to scare his bullies off.
The mother of the student, Chelisa Grimes, believed that school authorities were not doing enough to stop homophobic incidents. As a result, she wanted to take matters in her own hands: “I had to do something to protect my child. I was in fear of losing my child, either at the hands of the bullies or either at the hands of himself“, Grimes told MSNBC.
The 17 year old teen has been suspended until January 7.
