The wedding of Charlene Wittstock to Prince Albert of Monaco on July 1, 2011 was surrounded by rumour with French newspaper, Le Monde, insisting at the time that she had tried to run away three times before the ceremony.
The wedding went ahead with all the pomp and finery that would be expected of a Royal wedding although no one could fail to miss the fact that the bride looked miserable throughout. Le Monde, in French, said that her passport had been taken away from her to stop her trying to escape again.
Now, the Daily Mail newspaper claims that Charlene, who was originally born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and then moved with her family to Benoni, near Johannesburg in South Africa, only went ahead with the wedding because she had made a pact with her husband. The paper says that the agreement is that as soon as she produces a legitimate heir to the Monaco throne, she may be released from her marriage to Prince Albert with a handsome divorce settlement. However, the reluctant princess has so far been unable to fall pregnant.
Prince Albert already has three illegitimate children from flings with an air hostess, an estate agent and a third unknown woman. He was told that he would be forced to take a paternity test regarding this third child on his wedding day. This child was conceived after he started his relationship with champion swimmer Charlene, 33. Rumour has it that this was the final straw for Charlene who made a dash for the airport in Nice two days before the wedding. She was brought back by Monaco officials who, according to the paper, brokered the deal now known as the 'pregnancy pact.'
The Daily Beast reports that the princess feels lonely and depressed and claims she gave an interview to a South African magazine saying she only had two friends in Monaco. She puts on a brave face in public but according to the report, society in Monaco is embarrassed by her.
“There was a hope that she could introduce some glamour, but now most people just feel she is tacky.”
French magazine 'Voici' has as it 's main front page story for its edition for the week beginning April 27 the headline, in French, that Charlene is very depressed and as a sub headline that she has not yet been able to get pregnant.
According to The Royal Correspondent, the Royal couple are currently visiting Portugal to take part in a ceremony where the Prince and Princess were 'enthroned' into the brotherhood of Port wine, an honour given to very few heads of state. The Princess looks thin and has her hair cut short as can be seen in the accompanying video.
