article image'Avengers' just short of 'Hunger Games' at midnight box office

Meanwhile, Box Office Mojo also reports that the film is tracking very well and it has the seventh highest theater count opening ever with 4,359. Overseas, it has been breaking records and is over $300 million already.
Here is a list of the widest openings (theater counts):
1. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," 4,468
2. "Iron Man, 2," 4,380
3. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," 4,375
4. "The Dark Knight," 4,366
5. "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," 4,362
6. "Shrek Forever After," 4,359
7. "Marvel's The Avengers," 4,349
8. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," 4,325
9. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," 4,285
10. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," 4,260
As for the best midnight showing, here is that list. "The Avengers" while it sits on top for super heroes, is now right behind "The Hunger Games."
