Outside of the new flagship programs of the WWE in Raw and Smackdown, the sometimes forgotten shows under the umbrella of the company, NXT and Superstars, have found themselves going from cable deals to being broadcast on WWE.com.
With nearly 300 episodes combined between the two shows, they’ve morphed almost into proving grounds for rookie superstars before they become full time superstars either on Monday and/or Friday nights.
During a conference call earlier this morning concerning the WWE’s earnings in the 1st quarter of 2012, Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, among other things, commented on where he sees the future of the two shows going in the future.
From PWInsider.com:
They were asked about the distribution of Superstars and NXT. They are being monetized internationally and they hope to place those shows "on traditional networks" very soon.
While bringing the two shows to a traditional network might be a little out of the question, McMahon and the
WWE could still use NXT and Superstars to help showcase and help buildup the talent on the roster.
With the debut of the WWE Network coming soon later this year, it would be a good decision for the WWE to use the Superstars program as lead in show for pay-per-view events on the channel similar to Sunday Night Heat in the late 1990s.
As for NXT, the program could be used to showcase only talent coming from the developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, to help new rookie superstars develop under the bright lights of the WWE.
Since the WWE Network likely needing help with programming, NXT could be broadcast on the channel Wednesday nights to help bridge the gap during the week between Raw on Monday and Smackdown on Friday.
With McMahon wanting the two minor programs on a network instead of being broadcast on WWE.com, what direction would you like to see the WWE do with NXT and Superstars moving forward in the future?
