A Japanese budgerigar has been returned home following a city flight which left it lost, but not too bewildered. The budgie was able to recite its full address to police who were then able to identify the bird's owner.
The budgerigar became lost when it escaped from its home in Yokohama on Sunday morning, the Telegraph reported. Having flown into the city center the budgie was handed over to the police after landing on an hotel guest in a city hotel.
Police kept the bird in a cage where it remained silent until suddenly reciting its address in full on Tuesday night.
According to Japan Today police at the north Sagamihara police station were surprised when the parakeet suddenly blurted out its home address, including block and street number. Furthermore, police were able to identify the bird herself as she declared her name by saying "You’re pretty, Piko-chan."
The female owner of the bird had drilled her address into the budgie following an earlier instance when another pet budgie had flown the coop.
