Kabul - The Taliban has warned that their annual "spring offensive" to kill foreign occupiers will commence on Thursday. They have labeled this years offensive with the name ‘Al-Farooq.’
A statement posted on the Taliban's website announced the militants' offensive will begin on Thursday. According to Khaama the statement went on to say “It must be stated that the primary target of Al-Farooq operation will be the foreign invaders, their advisers, their contractors and members of all associated military, intelligence and auxiliary departments."
The Taliban has also launched a recruitment drive to boost numbers, calling on Afghans to fulfil their Islamic duty to oust the foreign occupiers. UPI reported the Taliban encouraged new members by stating "In this battle of truth and falsehood, victory and ascendancy shall be awarded to the mujahedin while defeat and humiliation shall be the fate of your moral-lacking soldiers, if Allah wills it."
Typically the annual "spring offensive" begins when melting snow makes it easier for the Taliban to attack. The occasion is usually marked by a surge of additional attacks. Press TV reported Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid threatened increased attacks will begin on May 3, as he said "Afghans don't like invaders and they have to leave this country."
