Toronto - Being happy is one of the best parts of being a child. When a child is sick that happy smile can go away but this May at Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital the community is being asked to do the happy for sick kids.
Today more than 200 people formed a huge happy face at Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square at the launch of Do The Happy for Sick Kids. The campaign was kicked off with with a proclamation from the City of Toronto declaring May SickKids Healthy & Happy month.
During May Sick Kids Hospital is focusing on raising awareness of Canadian child health issues. From healthy weights to preventing traumatic brain injury Sick Kids is invested in improving the health of every child in Canada.

“Do The Happy is a moment, a movement, a call to action and a lighthearted way to inspire the community to participate and support our campaign in the name of advancing children’s health,” says Ted Garrard, President and CEO, SickKids Foundation. “People will be joining a movement that celebrates what is truly important to our future – healthy and happy children. We are asking everyone in Toronto to Do The Happy this month by participating in a community fundraising event, making a donation to SickKids, or uploading a personalized icon and spreading the word via their social media networks.”

Madison Scott, a patient ambassador and child actress was on hand to bring the Happy on with two songs including If You're Happy and You Know It. Madison is in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and has been free from treatments for the past two years. She completed her last cancer treatment on January 29, 2010.

During the month of May there will be more than 50 registered community fundraising events throughout Ontario supporting the children's hospital. Educational sessions will take place so that Ontarians can learn more about healthy starts, brain injuries and stem cell research. On May 31 the Newstalk 1010 SickKids Radiothon presented by Foresters on May 31 and making a donation by phone or online will take place.
