Mother accused of encouraging teen daughter to fight
Apr 29, 2012 in
By Jimmy Reilly.
- An Elgin, IL mother stands accused of not only encouraging her teen-aged daughter to fight, but also of driving her to the scene to do so.
Police say that Anita Joost's 16-year-old daughter had been having problems with another girl, a 15-year-old classmate, and that the two had agreed to meet at a park and talk about their problems. Anita Joost allegedly drove her daughter to the park, encouraged the girl to attack the other girl, and then videotaped the assault.
Friends of the victim also apparently recorded the brawl and turned the video over to police.
“Parents are supposed to teach their kids how to follow rules, be good citizens. Parents should not teach kids how to commit felonies,” Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said.
After the fight ended,
Joost is alleged to have said,
"You talk about my daughter again, I'll have her break your (expletive) nose."
Joost has been charged with aggravated battery and contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor. On Thursday, a judge ordered Joost held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Joost's daughter is being held at the Kane County Youth Home
pending juvenile charges
