Playbill.com is reporting that Brazilian actor Tiago Kilmeck accidentally hanged himself while reenacting the death of Judas in "Passion of The Christ" on Good Friday. Kilmeck, 27, has died,
The actor had been playing the role of Judas, a biblical figure who betrayed Christ and later took his own life, at a city square in Itarare, a town 214 miles west of Sao Paolo, Brazil,
Playbill reports.
According to the
Daily Mail, the scene called for Kilmeck to "hang himself" from a rope and then pretend to be dead, but those close to the situation believe the safety vest he had on under his robe rose up and strangled him.
The actor was reportedly left hanging for 4 minutes before performers and spectators realized something went wrong, and that this wasn't part of the act,
BBC reports.
Kilmeck was taken to a hospital where scans revealed he suffered a cerebal anoxia, or complete lack of oxygen to the brain, the
Daily Mail reports.
According to
BBC, police are investigating the harness that was meant to support Kilmeck.
The Santa Casa de Itapeva hospital confirmed the actor's death, BBC reports.
