A Bollywood actress Meenakshi Thapa, 26, was murdered by two actors she met on the set of a film. Amit Jaiswal and Preei Surin, kidnapped and murdered Thapa after her stories of family wealth led them to believe they could hold her for a hefty ransom.
According to Daily Mail, Thapa met the two actors on the set of Madhur Bhandarkar's yet-to-be-released film titled "Heroine," in which she was playing a minor role.
Thapa was kidnapped and beheaded by Amit Jaiswal, 36, and his girlfriend Preei Surin, 26, after her mother paid 60,000 Rupees ($1,151) for her daughter's release, but she never saw her again.
According The Telegraph, a Detective said, "They wanted to extort money from her family. They have confessed to the crime. She was strangled in a hotel and her body was hacked into pieces and thrown in a water tank. They threw her head from a moving bus while traveling back to Mumbai."
According to Daily Mail, Mumbai police recovered Thapa's body from Surin's house in Allahabad on Wednesday.
The kidnappers, Jaiswal and Surin, who were arrested by Mumbai police on Saturday night, confessed the crime. According to the two, Thapa deceived them by making them believe her family was affluent.
According to a police spokesman: "They believed that Thapa was from a wealthy family because her lifestyle, despite not landing a big film role, hid the fact that she actually came from a middle-class background. They plotted to kidnap her for a ransom of 1,500,000 Rupees ($28,766) and kill her after the payment was made."
But unknown to them, Thapa was a girl with modest background who had played a minor role in a horror film and had appeared in a few TV commercials. Her family, of Nepalese-origin, had settled in Dehra Dun a few years before and like her kidnappers, she was struggling to establish a career in Bollywood.
According to police account, on March 30, they got Thapa to travel with them to Gorakhpur under the pretext of arranging a meeting with a Bhojpuri producer, Bollywood Life reports. There, they held her hostage and called her family demanding ransom. They threatened Thapa's mother, saying they would drug Thapa and force her to make a pornographic film if she did not deposit the money in Thapa's account.
Thapa's mother could only pay 60,000 rupees out of the 1,500,000 demanded, and the kidnappers killed Thapa.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , Thapa was strangled at a hotel, beheaded and her body dumped in two different locations during the return trip of the kidnappers to Mumbai. Bollywood Life reports Thapar's torso was found in a water tank in the Darbhanga Colony area of Allahabad. Her head was thrown out of the bus window during the trip in the Vindhyasani area on the Allahabad-Varanasi highway.
Thapa's brother reported the matter to the police in Dehra Dun, and the Mumbai police were alerted. The killers tried to get rid of all evidence linking them with Thapa but Jaiswal still held Thapa's mobile phone SIM cards. The police traced the two to Bandra and the SIM cards were found on Jaiswal after a search. According to a police source: "They confessed to the crime, but couldn't tell us exactly where they threw away the head during their journey from Allahabad to Mumbai."
According to police, Jaiswal and Surin were originally from Allahabad. They eloped after Jaiswal's wife discovered their affair, and came to Mumbai to "try their luck in film."
