The first 'man' to become pregnant and successfully deliver a child, and have a total of three children with his wife, is now separated from his wife.
Thomas Beatie is reported by MSNBC and People to have separated from his wife Nancy Beatie. The couple have three children together which became big news when Thomas Beatie first made headlines as a trans-gender male having a child.
The birth of the first child in 2008 made national headlines, and Beatie appeared on Oprah Winfrey's show to share the details of the process. The initial procedure as reported at the time was performed with a syringe by his wife Nancy using donated sperm. A quote reported by MSNBC at the time shows: “I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day,” he told Oprah Winfrey during an April interview.
Beatie announced the both the final surgery for female-to-male gender reassignment and the separation information while taping a segment for a show "The Doctors", and was quoted as saying:"Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we’re going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we’re separated." The segment will reportedly air on May 7th. Thomas Beatie is 38, while his wife Nancy is 49 and was unable to conceive due to having had a hysterectomy.
