Her schedule brought her to Pretoria's Cathedral of Saint Alban the Martyr, tucked away between high rise buildings. Media photographers only had a quick moment to snap the Princess, but Digital Journal attended the Thanksgiving Service where I joined in the Anglican hymns lustilly, as did the gentleman on my right. The Princess Royal is in South Africa to mark the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.
Photographers were very carefully managed and although they were unobtrusive, security men were in ample evidence. The Princess Royal arrived in a Range Rover and went to meet the Bishop as well as the officiating clergy. This was when we took our photos after which we were expected to leave. Princess Anne does not give press interviews. However, I asked to attend the service.
I was shown to a side chapel and my chair faced a stone pillar, but I could see the TV screen so didn't miss a thing (no photos inside, mind you!)
I was consequently invited to tea as were all who attended the service..
There I delivered a short message to her Royal Highness from the South African Legion of Military Veterans. She is a very natural, friendly person and I wish I'd had the chance to have a longer chat with her (Royal Highness).
