article imageOp-Ed: Ann Romney thanks Hilary Rosen for 'early birthday present'

By Bill Schmalfeldt     Apr 16, 2012 in Politics
Palm Beach - Forget the faux outrage you heard last week. Ann Romney "loved it" when Hilary Rosen made the comments she made about Ann's "work history."
This was not something reporters were supposed to hear. That means, you were not supposed to know she said it. But some sharp-eared reporters hanging around a Romney fundraiser Sunday night heard the would-be next First Lady actually thank Democratic CNN analyst Hilary Rosen for an "early birthday present."
"It was my early birthday present for someone to be critical of me as a mother, and that was really a defining moment, and I loved it," Mrs. Romney said.
Of course, as is common with this Republican church of latter day liars, Mrs. Romney totally misrepresented what it was Ms. Rosen actually said. She was not critical of Mrs. Romney "as a mother." She was critical of her "as a hypocrite."
Let's examine the entire quote.
"What you have is Mitt Romney running around telling people, you know, my wife tells me that what women really care about are economic issues, and when I listen to my wife, that's what I'm hearing. But guess what. His wife has actually never worked a day in her life. She's never dealt with the kind of economic issues that the majority of women in this country are facing in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school and why do we worry about their future."
See. When you look at what Ms. Rosen said and not what you want to pretend she said, she did not attack Mrs. Romney "as a mother." She attacked her as not having a clue of what she was talking about in terms of the everyday choices a real mother in the middle class has to deal with on a daily basis.
But the Right Wing Outrage Machine churns on.
