According to the Los Angeles Times
Anderson died Friday after a violent struggle with officers from the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident occurred on Sunday April 8th in the San Fernando Valley district of Reseda California.
Officers from the West Valley community police station
responded to a call of an attempted suicide according to the Times. Lieutenant Andrew Neiman told the Times that when paramedics and police arrived on scene Anderson was suffering from a stab wound, which his girlfriend said he had done to himself. The girlfriend went on to tell police she pried the knife away from Anderson, he was then handcuffed to a gurney and placed in an ambulance the Times reported.
The 6 foot 4 adult film star who also worked as a bouncer at a Hollywood nightclub, became violent police say, so much so, he was able to break out of his handcuffs and dislodge the gurney which was anchored into the ambulance. Lt. Neiman went on to tell the LA Times that an officer tried to restrain Anderson using a taser, however it did not work. It would take several LAPD officers to restrain the 39 year old Marland Anderson at which time he was transported to a hospital.
According to the director whom Anderson did his first film for, Marland had been battling depression and anxiety and struggling to find work
. Stoney Curtis told AVN, an adult industry news website, that Anderson had suffered an anxiety attack for which his girlfriend called an ambulance. Anderson allegedly became claustrophobic and asked to be allowed out of the ambulance, the paramedics agreed and called the LAPD officers back over to assist him, Curtis goes on to allege the police used brute force to restrain Marland Anderson, shooting him with taser's "excessively," according to the point where he allegedly suffered a heart attack, stop breathing for ten minutes and lapsed into a coma.
Marland was removed from life support on Thursday after being declared brain dead. The incident is under review by the LAPD's Force Investigation Division Lt. Neiman told the LA Times.
