London - 62 year-old pop star Robin Gibb is reportedly gravely ill and in a coma. Gibb's family, including his wife Dwina and brother Barry are told to be by his side as he fights for his life in a London hospital.
The Associated Press is reporting that former Bee Gee and long time recording artist Robin Gibb was hospitalized with pneumonia (citing a family friend) and has slipped into a coma.
Gibb has been reported to be battling colon and liver cancer for some time now, although never really specifying on his illness the singer did acknowledged in an recent interview with the BBC that he has had a growth removed from his colon.
Last year Gibb was hospitalized for stomach and colon problems which ultimately resulted in intestinal surgery last month. Robin suffers from the hereditary intestinal condition twisted bowel, the same condition twin brother Maurice battled with for years which eventually led to his death in 2003 at the age of 53.
Gibb's son Robin-John (RJ) Gibb told to the press, the family is "praying for him and hoping he has a speedy recovery." Telling the BBC "He is still in hospital, he's fighting infection and of course - as a lot of people who have family members or friends who endure cancer, they know - there are a lot of periphery problems afterwards they have to deal with."
In an interview with The Sun last month the singer reflected upon the tragedies he and his family has endured throughout the years, saying, "I sometimes wonder if all the tragedies my family has suffered - like Andy and Maurice dying so young and everything that's happened to me recently - is a kind of karmic price we are paying for all the fame and fortune we've had."
