On April 14 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Gelatissimo of 278 King Street, in Newtown handed out free ice cream to the public. Triple M radio station was present at the event.
The ‘Free Gelato Day’ had been advertised in the Inner West Courier local newspaper and on the Gelatissimo website.
A member of staff said this was the grand opening and the free ice cream was only available today.
Passers by had to sign up and could then proceed to get their free ice cream and a coupon that had three further offers that could be redeemed, one per week, over the next three weeks.
A throng of people swarmed the shop eager to get their ice cream, which would normally retail around the Aus $5 mark, depending upon which of the stores it is purchased from.
Gelatissimo stores operate as part of a franchise arrangement. The ice cream is made fresh in store daily and each store has numerous different dairy and sorbet flavours to choose from.
