article imageBrad Pitt, Angelina Jolie pressured by their kids, get engaged

By Yukio Strachan     Apr 14, 2012 in Entertainment
Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie confirmed Friday that they were officially engaged. His partner of seven years — and their six children — couldn't be any happier.
"Yes, it's confirmed," Cynthia Pett-Dante, Pitt's manager said, according to USA Today. "It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time." And yes, she confirms that Pitt designed the ring.
People Magazine says Beverly Hills jeweler Robert Procop, who collaborated with Angelina Jolie on "The Style of Jolie" jewelry line, to benefit the Education Partnership for Children in Conflict, designed her engagement ring.
In a statement to Access Hollywood, a rep for Procop confirmed the news.
“Yes, I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt,” the jeweler’s rep told Access.
“Working closely with Brad Pitt to realize the star’s vision for the ring, Robert Procop was able to source a diamond of the finest quality which was then transformed using Pitt’s unique designs, cut with distinctive faceting to a shape and size that perfectly suits Angelina’s long, slender fingers,” the rep added.
“Throughout, Brad Pitt remained heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design process from the perfect cut of the diamond centerpiece - an elongated tablet shape - to the finishing touches such as the mounting of a galaxy of smaller stones which are graduated in size and faceted to match, adding a crowning lustre to the ring.
The full creative journey – from conception to completion – took a year, with Brad Pitt waiting until the perfect moment to unveil this special jewel to Angelina Jolie.”
And waiting for the perfect moment to unveil it — to the press.
Engagement planned as a leak
"The engagement announcement was planned as a leak very late in the day on Friday so the [tabloids] would miss it," writes Forbes Magazine reporter Roger Friedman. "Angelina wore an engagement ring to a charity event. Then the jeweler who made the ring leaked the story. He is now Lord of the Rings."

Jolie was spotted wearing the ring Wednesday at a private viewing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Chinese Galleries with Pitt and their son Pax, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported on the ring.
But People refused to be denied, says Friedman. People magazine ripped up their "planned cover story for Monday and got to work. The result is a total Brangelina special coming on Monday (available maybe in New York tomorrow)," Friedman writes.
He adds: "Insiders say they’re hoping the competition didn’t have the flexibility to do the same thing. People has a long history with the couple, paying them millions for exclusive photos over the years of their children and their various sagas."
Brangelina — Jolie, 36, and Pitt, 48, — have been together since 2005 when they starred together in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The Philadelphia Inquirer reminds us that Pitt actually was married at the time — to Jennifer Aniston.
"The dissolution of their union and Jolie’s alleged role in it kept many a gossip writer from the poorhouse for months. Jolie was previously wed, for like the blink of an eye, to Johnny Miller, and for two more blinks to Billy Bob Thornton."
Get mommy a ring
Rumors that they planned to marry have circulated for years.
Jolie told People Magazine at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, "I think anything said tends to be blown out of proportion."
But in January, Pitt said the couple’s six kids wanted mom and dad to get married. Pitt and Jolie raise six children together — Maddox, 10; Pax, 8; Zahara, 7; Shiloh, 5 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 3.
“We’re getting a lot of pressure from the kids. It means something to them,” Pitt told Lee Cowan during an interview on Sunday’s CBS Morning News. “They have questions when their friends’ parents are married and why is that?”
"So what do you tell them?" Cowan asked.
"We will someday, we will: 'That's a great idea! Get mommy a ring! Okay, I will, I will,' Pitt said.
