Known as the "Oscars of the Travel Industry", nominations for the 2012 World Travel Awards
were released on April 12, 2012, with the Grand Final scheduled for December in New Delhi, and the hotels of Croatia's premier island Hvar once again featured on the shortlist.
Winner of the 2008 category
for Europe's Leading Boutique Resort, Hotel Adriana once more made the shortlist of six in the same category, with competition provided by Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa in the United Kingdom, Choupana Hills Resort & Spa in Portugal, Hotel Les Ottomans in Turkey, Vila Joya in Portugal and Villa e Palazzo Aminta Hotel Beauty & Spa Stresa in Italy.
Adriana was not the only Suncani Hotel to be nominated, with Hotel Riva
being nominated for the fifth year in succession in the category of Croatia's Leading Boutique Hotel, where Adriana is also nominated.
Both hotels have been nominated every for the World Travel Awards every year since 2008, a reflection of the quality of the facelift given to the hotels after the major investment by ORCO Group in 2005, which transformed the hotels, and Hvar Town, into one of the hottest destinations on the Adriatic.
The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993, with the aim of recognising excellence in the travel and tourism industry, with votes cast by some 217,000 travel professionals in more than 160 countries. The European winners will be announced in a ceremony in The Algarve
in Portugal in October, before the Grand Final in The Oberoi, Gurgaon, New Delhi, India in December.
