A video recently posted to YouTube shows three orb-like structures moving around the Space Shuttle Atlantis
while it was in orbit on a 2006 mission. The ground control officer on NASA's live public feed saw the orbs but argued they were mere "reflections on the camera lens." But it is obvious from their responses that the crew of the spacecraft were not convinced.
The YouTube footage, excerpted from NASA's live public feed, begins with a view of the Atlantis cargo bay being serviced and the ground controller running a commentary on what is happening (see first video above
). Then the crew members begin describing orb-like structures they are observing. One of the crew members says: "It’s a structure that’s definitely not rigid. Doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen on the outside of the Shuttle, that’s for sure." The crew member speaking says the object "moved to the nose of the orbiter, moving away at least 100 feet."
The camera, after a delay, focuses on three orbs at 4:45. The orbs hover in a triangular formation close to the spacecraft. But the ground control officer is not impressed. He insists they are "reflections in the camera lens." But the crew members remain unconvinced. One of them says they are seeing "three or four objects." He asks: "Can you confirm it's just the one that's moving?"
comments that the footage is too blurred for a definite conclusion on the nature of the objects. Gather.com
shares the skepticism of the astronauts about the explanation that the objects are "reflections of light off a piece of tin foil." The website comments that the objects don't behave in a manner consistent with the explanation that they are light reflections: "They act independently, yet always maintain equidistant juxtaposition from each other."
While some YouTube viewers believe that what the crew saw was space junk, Gather.com
wonders at the forced explanation of the ground controller, saying: "The objects may not be of the unidentified flying object kind, but it seems strange the NASA people would want to kill the prospects of any UFO rumors cropping up."
The orbs are reminiscent of the Digital Journal
report of a recent sighting of orbs flying around a passenger plane in Seoul, South Korea (see second video above
). Some UFO believers commenting on YouTube think this coincidence is significant and that we may be missing something. Gizmodo's
description of the objects as "spherical looking" objects floating around the shuttle shares a lot in common with the Seoul sighting.
Do the mysterious orbs represent some sort of stealth alien crafts observing us? Many UFO believers think this could be true.
