One of the meals of the century awaits diners in Restaurant Lido in the Croatian capital on Sunday, as Zdravko Kalabric's chefs recreate the final Titanic menu.
Hvar's Olympic chefs head to Zagreb this weekend, as part of a team under Croatia's only certified Master Chef, Zdravko Kalabric, which will recreate the final first class menu of the Titanic on April 15, 2012, the 100th anniversary of the 'unsinkable' ship, a gastronomic event which will be covered by Digital Journal.
Kalabric, whose 38-year career in Canada included leading the national team to the Culinary Olympics, is a regular visitor to the island, where he is training four of the island's chefs as part of a wider Croatian team to take part in this year's Olympics in Erfurt, Germany in October, as previously reported. He is also no stranger to the Titanic menu, having recreated it in Canada on the occasion of the 70th anniversary.
The event will be hosted in Restaurant Lido which, appropriately enough, is located next to water - the Jarun lake, and Darko Sikoronja from Lido confirmed to Digital Journal in a telephone interview that the event was Kalabric's idea, before forwarding a copy of the menu - all eleven courses.

The participation of Hvar's chefs is the latest in what has been a very busy off-season, and has included the Days of Hvar Cuisine Festival in Belgrade, and headlining the first Croatia Food and Wine Festival with a VIP lunch at Zagreb Arena. The island's first culinary display in Oslo is planned for the autumn.
