The president of the UFC responded to a fan on Twitter on Saturday and said that the match between Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir at UFC 146 will happen.
White said that the fight scheduled for May 26 at UFC 146 will still take place. This means that there is little chance that Velasquez or Mir will be asked to step into the octagon to fight Junior Dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight championship.
Dos Santos was suppose to fight Alistair Overeem in the main event at UFC 146 but the fight is now in jeopardy. This is because a positive test for elevated testosterone levels came back on Overeem's part. As of now Overeem is not off of the main event card, according to Heavy.com.
According to the Province, a lot of people thought that Mir would be picked to fight Dos Santos in the main event after the news of Overeem's positive test came back last Wednesday. During a press release Mir took off his hat and threw it into the ring and said that he would be honored to fight Dos Santos for the title.
According to MMAMania, Mir offered to take Overeem's spot at UFC 146. However, after the comments White made on Saturday, it is probably a safe bet to say that Mir will definitely not be fighting Dos Santos.
As of now it is not know who will fight Dos Santos at UFC 146. Dan Henderson has already said he is willing to fight the champion and Mark Hunt is also being considered. Nothing is set in stone yet.
