A German woman is getting ready to reunite with her beloved cat that went missing 16 years ago. In an amazing discovery, the cat, "Poldi", will be at last going home.
Poldi went missing well over a decade ago and was long presumed to be dead, AFP reported (courtesy of France 24). The kitty was found in a forest 30km (19 miles) from Munich and was described as emaciated.
Apparently he'd been living on his own in the woods for an extended period of time.
According to Life with Cats, Poldi's owner reported him missing back in 1996. The cat was found by 19-year-old Kilian Schoettel, who took him home as a stray, and fed him. The Schoettel family described Poldi as "very trusting" and they were able to see he had a tattoo.
Thanks to this tattoo, located on the cat's ear which contained a unique identifying number, the owner was able to be traced by an animal sanctuary. The owner is now readying to pick up Poldi on Thurs. At this time the owner has not been identified by name.
German publication Muenchener Abendzeitung reported Poldi is toothless and has liver problems, and possibly thyroid issues as well.
The Muenchener Abendzeitung reported Kilian's father, Bernhard Schoettel, said, "My son immediately noticed that the animal was quite old. He felt sorry for it because it no longer had any front teeth." (courtesy of BBC News)
It is believed by Poldi's owner that he ran away because he did not get along with another cat in the household. She'd given up hope of ever finding him and is reportedly stunned her pet was located.
And now, miraculously now he'll be coming home.
"She really didn't think she would see the cat again after such a long time," Eveline Kosenbach from the city's animal sanctuary told AFP.
In Dec. 2011 Petunia, a mixed breed pit bull, was reunited with her family and went back home to Virginia. She had gone missing back in 2003 and was found 3,000 miles away in California.
