A dog in Staten Island, New York, took a bullet for his owner during a home invasion. The dog ended up surviving the incident.
The dog, named Kilo, is a pit bull and he took a bullet right to the head. Kilo took a bullet when he tried to protect his owner from a person who was trying to invade the home. The invader posed as a FedEx employee. The incident took place over the weekend.
According to MSNBC, the bullet ended up ricocheting off of Kilo’s skull. The bullet then exited through Kilo’s neck. This is possibly what helped the dog survive.
Dr. Greg Panarello’s veterinary clinic performed Kilo’s operation. Panarello said that the dog is extremely lucky to have survived the incident.
According to KSEE, Kilo’s shooting occurred when the would be invader told Justin Becker that he had a package for him.
Becker, 32, pushed the man to the ground. However, the man was already halfway into the apartment, and that was when Kilo stuck his head outside of Becker’s door. That is when the man fired off his gun.
According to SILive, after the man fired a shot he ended up running off. Becker said that Kilo was stunned after getting shot but was still walking. Kilo ended up going to the clinic and was in surgery for around 40 minutes.
Pit bulls are known for their strong skulls and the bullet actually did not fracture Kilo’s skull. This also could have helped the dog survive the ordeal.
