The first official picture to publicise the Daleks (left) in the opening story of the 2012 series of Doctor Who has been released. Meanwhile, details of what the Doctor’s most iconic enemies have been up to since they last appeared have surfaced, too!
On Friday, Digital Journalreported that the Daleks were returning to Doctor Who after a two-year gap, in a story that would see all versions of the robotic foes – from the 1960s originals, to those that were seen in the 1970s, 1980s and 2000s, to the newest ones introduced in 2010, in Victory of the Daleks.
Many of the original Dalek props reside at the Doctor Who Experience – currently moving from London, where it has been staged since 2007, to its permanent home in Cardiff, the Welsh city where Doctor Who is produced. Some of those props were involved in filming over the weekend for the as-yet-untitled episode that will be broadcast this autumn.
During filming, Doctor Who’s head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat tweeted a photograph of one of those Daleks – thought to be from episodes when Patrick Troughton was playing the Second Doctor.
Meanwhile, also at the weekend, the comedian Peter Serafinowicz claimed on his BBC Radio 6 Music show that he knew what the Daleks had been up to during their absence from television screens, then proved it by playing an extract from a cassette tape, Dalek Relaxation For Humans.
Hearing is believing!
