What do you get when a bald eagle, a fox and a cat hang out on your porch? It might sound like a joke but one Alaska woman grabbed her video camera and filmed the unusual get together.
And after Pam Aus posted the video on YouTube, it received over 1 million hits in just over a week.
Aus, from Unalaska, Alaska, writes that for her town, it is not uncommon for bald eagles to perch on her porch and they often do so with her cats around, but the fox was a new gatecrasher. Aus explained:
"See how the fox, eagle and cat are all just fine hanging out and no one is trying to attack anyone and they are getting along just fine? Notice the eagle in the background on the lamp post down by the street. That is the partner to this eagle. They aren't always out to attack and kill each other. Our fox and eagles and cats basically get along just fine here."
At one point in the 49-second film, the fox even looks as if it pondering the idea of entering her home, before Aus tells him he can't. But none of the animals appear to mind her being just feet away. In fact Aus said, when the fox first appeared earlier in the day:
"Gizmo my cat went right up to the fox and told him to leave. It was too funny! But the fox came right back!"
The Unalaska woman told the Anchorage Daily News, that many of the animals, "kind of just coexist in this town."
Aus said that she does not feed the animals and they are all wild. They are just "used to being around people," she explained.
Bald eagles have been filmed before doing some strange things. In the video below captured last year, this eagle's ravenous appetite netted him a fish from the Skagit River. Too big for him to fly with, he swam with it for over 200 yards to the shore, using his wings like arms. An act so human-like in appearance, it's positively freaky.
