article imageLawrence O'Donnell interviews empty chair of Zimmerman's lawyer

By Katerina Nikolas     Mar 28, 2012 in Entertainment
Lawrence O'Donnell conducted a hard-hitting, inspired interview with an empty chair, after Craig Sonner, the lawyer representing George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin shooting, ran out on him. The chair failed to answer O'Donnell's questions.
Lawrence O'Donnell was left facing an empty chair as he hosted Monday's "Last Word" following the hasty departure of Sonner. According to Time O'Donnell told his audience Sonner was “the first guest in the history of this particular show to get scared, to be so terrified of coming on this show that he has literally run away.”
Undettered, O'Donnell ploughed on, becoming increasingly fired up as he fired his prepared questions at an empty chair draped with a microphone. Unfortunately the chair remained quiet as it sat out the assault.
The chair failed to make for as compelling a performance as that offered by a Tub of Lard, that famously sat in for British parliamentarian Roy Hattersley on an addition of the BBC's "Have I Got News For You."
O'Donnells performance inspired some mockery on the part of satirist Jon Stewart who said that after watching the gripping interview “I started feeling badly for the chair.” (Mediaite)
Stewart poked fun at O'Donnell, telling his audience "He’s grilling the chair!” No, the chair doesn’t have medical records to show you! It’s a chair! You should be yelling at the filing cabinet. Note to self: do not go to Ikea with Lawrence O’Donnell."
