article imageChesney nabs milestone award from ACM; 10.5 million tickets sold

By Tim O'Brien     Mar 26, 2012 in Entertainment
Las Vegas - This one gets filed under the no fooling pile come April 1, for a couple reasons. One being that day is the Academy of Country Music Awards, to be held in Las Vegas.
The second is that Kenny Chesney will get a big honor that night. However, it will not be one of the televised awards given out during one of country's biggest party nights.
The award would be fitting for this night. It is the Crystal Milestone Award, which honors Chesney for what he has done for the business. To be more exact, it is for his 10.5 million concert tickets sold in his 11 national tours. Not only is that a big feat but it is a shot in the arm for any town and arena in which he plays. So, how about honoring him in Las Vegas on April 1? They would be foolish not too, but as of now, that is not in the plans. Of course, that could change. Chesney latest tour also features country megastar Tim McGraw.
Not only is Chesney being honored but other country stars will be, too. They include Emmylou Harris. She will receive the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award. It honors contributions to country music history. Also receiving that award will be producer Billy Sherrill, Ricky Skaggs and Dwight Yoakam.
Also announced was that Vince Gill will accept the Career Achievement Award. This, too, is perhaps an honor that could be included in the show, but will not. It honors his work in advancing the genre in the previous calendar year
Another non-televised awards will go to Alan Jackson. He will be honored with the Jim Reeves International Award. That award is for expanding country music's reach around the world.
Other awards announced include:
Casino: Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas
Don Romeo Talent Buyer: Jimmy Jay, Jayson Promotions Inc.
Nightclub: Billy Bob's Texas, Fort Worth, Texas
Promoter: Brian O'Connell, Live Nation
Venue: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville

A couple songwriters, Bobby Braddock and the late Roger Miller, will receive the Poet's Award.
These special awards will be noted at the show on CBS April 1, but will be presented on Sept. 24 during the sixth annual ACM Honors event in Nashville. No word if that will be televised - yet.
