When you're established as a bona-fide trend-setting artist and you've just turned 18 you'll want to show fans growth with your next album. Such is the case with Canadian singer Justin Bieber, with proof being his new single 'Boyfriend.'
As of Monday, March 26, 2012, 'Boyfriend' is out on iTunes and is the first single off of what will be his follow-up album to 'My World, 2.0', which came out exactly two years ago, on March 23 of 2010. On the new single Bieber sings in a lower-register than on songs like 'Baby' and 'Never Say Never' and does some rap that's pretty adult, complete with lyrics that aren't simply about you smile and then I smile.
Believe: more mature Justin Bieber
Since "My World 2.0' he's released other singles but his only studio album was a Christmas 2011 release, 'Under the Mistletoe'. So there's a lot of water under the bridge, relatively speaking, and if 'Boyfriend' is an indicator then the upcoming album, 'Believe', will be show a heap of growth and maturity has taken place since, at the ages of 15 and 16, he recorded 'My World, 2.0'.
Most of his fans are tween and teen girls, though many young women and males are Bieber fans, and naturally they're aging and maturing too, so there likely won't be a negative reaction to his growth. Proof of that came early in the iTunes up-to-date Top 100 singles in the USA chart, with 'Boyfriend', only hours after its release, had already hit the number 3 spot.
Bieber Tweets about 'Boyfriend'
Some things about Bieber haven't changed, for example, as he always does for new events and music, he sent out a series of tweets about the single coming out on Sunday, himself anticipating it with a tweet countdown. Shortly after 'Boyfriend' hit iTunes his twitter page was being filled with positive reviews from fans and friends.
'Believe', which will include collaborations with artists like Lil Wayne, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 (and The Voice) fame, will i. am and fellow-Canadian, Drake, is expected to be out in the summer.
