Man divorces wife over loudspeaker at mall

A man in Saudi Arabia divorced his wife in a very public way, by shouting the divorce over a loudspeaker at the shopping mall.

According to Emirates 247 the husband was so incensed at the sight of his wife receiving a note from another man whilst shopping at the mall, that he divorced her on the spot. He used the mall's loud speaker to announce the divorce to his wife who was in the company of their three children. Under Islamic law a man is only required to declare the words "Inti talaq" three times for the divorce to legal, even if his wife does not hear the words. According to Little About one Muslim wife didn't hear her husband declare talaq three times over a cell phone but the matter was settled by advice from an Islamic seminary which ruled “for the talaq to take place there is no need for any witnesses and it is also not necessary that the wife has to hear the words, if the man said it is done.” Unfortunately for husbands who divorce in haste, they cannot be reconciled with their spouse until she has married and divorced another man. Emirates 247 reported another case of divorce where a Saudi husband divorced his wife as he was cross that she woke him in the morning to go to work. However, he regretted his actions as soon as his temper had subsided, but the divorce was irrevocable under Islamic law.
