Angers - The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Angers, France warns all citizens to hold on to their furry little friends.
According to the French SPA, there were 522 cats that vanished during 2011. The number of cats disappearing increased drastically from the count of 200 cats which disappeared in 2000.
Although officials are aware of the growing number of cats missing, they are still unclear about the reason. The president of the French SPA asks "Who is behind these disappearances? And why?"
According to Michelle Doisneau, another key member of the organization, the SPA has been continually examining all possibilities in order to determine why the cats are suddenly disappearing. They have previously uncovered cat fur trafficking networks in Nantes, but have not discovered any similar operations recently in the Angers area.
Marie-Loise Triollet, the Vice President of the French SPA, states "it is a serious phenomenon."
No cats have been discovered since they have been reported missing.
