article imageComedian’s teasing over sexuality gets Simon Cowell ‘fuming’

UK comedian David Walliams reckons the TV and talent-spotting mogul Simon Cowell is due for some merciless teasing about his sexuality, once the live broadcasts for one of Britain’s top talent shows hit the airwaves.
Walliams is one of the judges on Britain’s Got Talent along with Cowell himself and Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden.
The Daily Mail says Cowell was left “fuming” after Walliams – star and co-writer with Matt Lucas of Little Britain and Come Fly With Me – joked about Cowell’s sexuality during the recording of the Jonathan Ross show, due to be aired Saturday.
Walliams “took things too far”, says the Mail, which adds that he pushed Cowell “to the limit”.
“The controversy began,” says the paper, “when Walliams, promoting Britain’s Got Talent, told Jonathan: ‘The main question I get is, “Is Simon gay?” Even my mum asks. She says, “He’s nice. Is he gay?”’
“And while Cowell attempted to bring the conversation back around to work, saying that he often worked from midday to 5 a.m., Walliams joked: ‘At 12 o’clock at night you’re working quite hard – because that’s when the ladyboys come round.’”
Cowell said that most of what had been said would be edited out, because he had a special relationship with the network that screens Ross, ITV, which also screens Britain’s Got Talent and the other major talent show, Cowell’s The X Factor.
However, it remains to be seen just how much will be taken out of the broadcast programme when it and the opening episode of the new series of Britain’s Got Talent go out on Saturday.
The Mail reports that Cowell was heard saying to Ross, “I want a word with you,” as the show went into an ad segment.
And, while things began professionally enough after the ad break, “Walliams was quick to return to his naughty jokes, showing Ross a picture of himself and Simon on his phone.
“He told the presenter: ‘This proves that Simon does like me. Look at how erect his nipples are!’”
The paper says Cowell joked on his Twitter page that he’d been on Ross’s show with Walliams and “he’s out of control. Just wait till BGT [Britain’s Got Talent] starts David, I’ll get my own back!’
But Walliams replied to that with: “Honey, I am just getting started! You wait until the live shows!”
The live shows will come later in the series, after many of the earlier contenders are weeded out of the competition.
90-second delay
Digital Spy reports that at one point in the interview, Cowell “stood up in an attempt to stop the interview after Ross made a joke about him touching Walliams’s ‘buzzer’.”
Earlier this week, the same online outlet said Cowell was reported to want a 90-second delay facility once the shows go live, because of the uncertainty of Walliams’s humour.
The revelation, it said, had come from Britain’s Got Talent presenter Stephen Mulhern: “I’m worried what David will be like at the live shows, there’s no controlling him!
“Simon did say he was contemplating having a 90-second delay because of David.”
The Jonathan Ross Show goes out on Saturday on ITV1 at 10.20 p.m. and Britain’s Got Talent begins at 8 p.m. on the same evening, also on ITV1.
