article imageDogs fill the rings for spring show in Nova Scotia Special

By Lynn Curwin     Mar 20, 2012 in World
Both conformation and obedience dogs got together for the Cobequid Dog Club's spring show in Nova Scotia during the weekend.
The two-day show, which was held at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition grounds in Bible Hill, drew more than 250 dogs for conformation each day and more than 30 for obedience (including rally obedience- where dogs and handlers are timed as they complete a course). While some dogs were practicing their skills before entering the rings, others were being brushed and sprayed to look their best. Some dogs took part in both conformation showing and obedience during the weekend.
More than 80 breeds were represented in conformation, with top honours being taken by a Pomeranian called Ch Foxworth Follow Me Boys and a whippet called Ch Stoneledge 'N Lorricbrook La Nina.
Sixteen young handlers competed in junior handling, with Colton O'Shea, 16, winning the title.
Helen Shaver was one of the young handlers who took part in the show. She has beagles but also handles other breeds.
"Beagles are my favourite though," she said. "I really like them. I enjoy their stubbornness."
