It is official. UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos will defend the title against Alistair Overeem on May 26 at UFC 146.
Junior Dos Santos will be defending the UFC heavyweight title for the first time since defeating Cain Velasquez for the title last year in October. Dos Santos will defend the title on May 26 at UFC 146 which will take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. Alistair Overeem will be facing Dos Santos, according to Lorenzo Fertitta, the chairman of the UFC.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Dos Santos became the heavyweight champion after he defeated Velasquez in just 64 seconds of the first round. Velasquez was undefeated before being defeated by Dos Santos.
According to MMA Junkie, Overeem was a former champion in Strikeforce but he was released and then signed by the UFC. Overeem made his UFC debut at UFC 141 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Overeem knocked out Brock Lesnar and became the number one contender for the UFC heavyweight title.
According to the Las Vegas Sun the favorite to win the fight is Dos Santos. Some sources place Santos in at minus 170 which means risking $1.70 with $1, while Overeem is placed at coming back at 140.
UFC 146 will also be the setting for a lightweight bout between Evan Dunham and Edson Barboza, who is a surging prospect with an impressive record of 10-0 MMA and 4-0 in the UFC, while Dunham has a record of 13-2 MMA and 6-2 in the UFC.
