article imageGeorge Clooney — The story behind that arrest

By Alexander Baron     Mar 18, 2012 in Politics
Unless you are a die hard fan or take an interest in African affairs, you are probably unaware of George Clooney's long standing involvement with Sudan.
The recent arrest of George Clooney and his father Nick outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington attracted worldwide coverage, as they intended it to. Most Westerners don't realise what is happening in the Sudan. The hysteria generated over racism and homophobia in the West puts it to shame. Even the ongoing siege of Gaza pales by comparison.
George Clooney is one of the founders of Not On Our Watch, an organisation that in its own words: “focuses on mass atrocities and gross violations of international human rights. We work in areas where global attention is minimal and the response from the international community remains muted.”
You can read about it here with particular reference to the Sudan and what is going on in Darfar.
Here is a short video of the star in Sudan exposing the horror to the world. Be warned, it contains some graphic footage.
As you can see from the counter, this video has had less than a quarter of a million views to date, while probably half the people on the planet saw, heard or read about Clooney's arrest. Which begs the question, how many more people will have to watch this video, especially our leaders, before the world follows his example?
