In the small town of Arnold California, a Deputy Sheriff was involved in an incident with a fatal outcome for the suspect.
Arnold California is a very small town in the rural Mother Lode region of California and today deputies were called to the area to find a suspect who had been firing a weapon in a housing subdivision.
At 8:24, the first call came in from a caller regarding a possible burglary. Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff's responded to the area near Blue Lakes Springs Drive, in Arnold.
A propane gas delivery driver had radioed his dispatcher that a person had stopped the driver in the road, and claimed his home was being burglarized while the person waved a handgun around. The suspicious person then ran off into the wooded area between two of the homes in the subdivision.
Neighborhood residents had called in to the Sheriff's office to report an individual who was armed and in the area also and some of the callers reported shots being fired. When Deputies responded to the area near where the shots were being fired, a suspect appears to have fired shots in the direction of the Deputy and the Deputy responded with one shot.
The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene and the officer was placed on administrative leave as the standard policy of the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department.
The suspect has not been named until the next of kin have been notified and a positive identification has been made.
