Malibu - Dick Van Dyke married his girlfriend on Leap Day. The 86-year-old Van Dyke tied the knot with 40-year-old Arlene Silver.
The duo have known each other for six years.
According to People, Van Dyke and Silver, a makeup artist, met six years ago at the SAG awards. Van Dyke was reportedly enamored by Silver on the spot, and hired her to be his personal makeup artist.
In an exclusive interview, RumorFix reports Van Dyke said, “I was in the green room and she passed through and I was bowled over by her beauty.”
Over time, friendship, and then love, blossomed.
Van Dyke shares, "The last couple of years we kind of fell in love."
Reportedly the wedding was a bit of an impulse as Van Dyke tells RumorFix it was “Kinda on the spur of the moment, we just decided Leap Day would be the best time to do it.”
Silver noted Van Dyke is always in a good mood. The bride said about her new husband, “He’s the happiest person I ever met. He’s got an infectious spirit.”
Van Dyke admits he likes to be in relationships. He married once before in 1948 to Margie Willett and they were married for decades before divorcing in 1984, reported The Washington Post.
He also had a 30-year relationship with actress Michelle Triola. Triola passed away in 2009.
“I’m not a loner,” Van Dyke told RumorFix. “I have to have a life partner and I found the perfect one.”
The wedding was reportedly a small one and took place in Malibu, Calif. A larger wedding may place in the future.
San Jose Mercury News reported Van Dyke's publicist Bob Palmer said, "I've never seen him happier. She adds a lot to his life." Palmer noted the couple shares a love of singing.
Over time Van Dyke has appeared in numerous shows including radio, TV, movies and plays. His 1960s TV show, "The Dick Van Dyke" show, which co-starred Mary Tyler Moore, was a hit, as were other popular movies such as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Mary Poppins." He also starred in the popular series "Diagnosis: Murder."
When asked how it is being a newlywed, Van Dyke said, "Wonderful, wonderful."
