article imageMTV plans concert in Ireland to mark R.M.S. Titanic centenary

By Marcus Hondro     Feb 29, 2012 in Entertainment
There's a host of events in 2012 throughout the world to mark the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic and pop music isn't going to be left out. MTV announced Feb. 29 they will host a music fest in Belfast, Ireland to honor the ship.
The announcement came on MTV U.K. but the site did not give out much information yet and no bands were announced. MTV did say the concert will be April 13 and that it'd be a "dynamite night of live music...under the stars" that will include numerous bands. The concert will be"staged against the backdrop of the city’s iconic Titanic Belfast tourist attraction."
Titanic Sinking 1912: 100 years on
The year 2012 marks the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the White Star liner in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912. The ship and her fate continue to fascinate, largely because of the large-scale horror, with 1,522 passengers and crew losing their lives.
The MTV concert is added to a long list of special Titanic events throughout Belfast. A part of the docks where the Titanic and her sister ship, the Olympia, were built, has a exhibit called The Titanic Quarters. In March a massive Titanic museum will open, with a building that replicates the ship; all part of 'Belfast's Titanic Signature Project.' The project includes photos taken by Robert Ballard, who lead an expedition back to the ship in 2011 to supply the new pictures.
The concert will come 6 months in total after MTV Europe hosted the European Music Awards in Belfast.
