Khamis Gaddafi is like a cat with nine lives if the latest report of his capture turns out to be true. The feared son of Colonel Gaddafi has been reported as killed on three occasions, but new reports claim he has turned up again, this time missing a leg.
Khamis Gaddafi, son of the slain ex-Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has been reportedly captured in Libya by rebel forces from Zintan. Khamis, head of the feared Khamis Brigade, has been reported as dead on several occasions, but it was widely believed he was actually killed during a NATO air strike on August 29.
Tunisia Live reported Abdelaziz Bakka, the administrative director of the Jebel Nefusa battalion, claims Khamis was captured on Friday evening, near to the Libyan city of Zuwara, close to the Tunisian border. Bakka said Khamis was accompanied by a doctor and has thought to have had a leg amputated. According to the Tripoli Post the reports that Khamis has lost a leg are unconfirmed.
Bakka said that other Gaddafi loyalists are thought to be in the area, saying “we had information about the whereabouts of other wanted Gaddadfi officials thanks to the recent confessions of prisoners in Zuwara.”
If Khamis is indeed still alive it will be the fourth time that he has been reported alive after being reported dead. As Digital Journal reported it was first claimed in March last year that Khamis had been killed by a suicide pilot. The National Transitional Council then claimed he was actually killed by a NATO air strike on August 5, only for another report of his death to be issued on August 29.
In spite of the repeated reports of his death the NTC did claim in November that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi had revealed under interrogation that Khamis was in fact still alive. However, there were no further reports concerning Khamis after that time, and pro-Gaddafi sources had confirmed that Khamis was indeed killed in the August 29 attack.
