Anaheim - Recently an unusual and not-so-happy event occurred at one of the happiest places on Earth. Police were called to Disneyland in Anaheim after an allegedly drunk guest ended up in an altercation with Disney employees and other guests.
Video footage was taken of the episode by an onlooker and uploaded to YouTube. At the time of writing, the video has received close to 1 million page views.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the incident occurred on Sat. at the Tower of Terror ride at Disney's California Adventure, and police were called to the scene about 3:30 p.m. local time.
The 4-minute video shows a confrontation between the man and park employees ('cast members'). The man hit a cast member and then fell to the ground, continuing to kick and throw punches.
The man was pepper-sprayed by a security guard and this subdued him for a time, but then he got up and began to shout profanities. Then he throws another punch as he's pepper-sprayed again.
As this is going on, comments and commotion can be clearly heard in the background indicating that many people had gathered around to observe. Disney staff can be seen trying to push spectators back away from the confrontation; meanwhile the man is still actively fighting and obscenities can be heard. He then pulls an employee down to the ground.
Some of the onlookers jumped in to assist the employee. Again the man is eventually subdued and then begins to plead for them to let him go and says, "I promise I won't do anything else." One guest shouted the man was covered in blood, however no images show this.
"When we arrived the suspect was being held by a few patrons and Disney security officers," Sgt. Bob Dunn told City News Service, reported Mercury News.
Anaheim police later identified the man as 53-year-old Glenn Horlacher, who was arrested and charged with battery and assault at the Anaheim jail. He was released later that evening reported MSNBC.
"Our security cast member was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for the injuries he sustained and then released," Disney public relations director Suzi Brown told City News Service (via Mercury News). "We appreciate the actions of the guests who came to his aid during this uncharacteristic incident."
At this time it is not clear what started the incident, but reports say the man may have been drinking.
The video, posted by YouTube user TheBaustin, captioned the footage "Disney tower of terror fight " and in the caption writes, "We had a weird day at Disneyland...Fiiiiight!!!"
*Note: YouTube has this video listed as 18 and older due to the violence and profanities on the footage.
