Every year, supermodels chomp at the bit to see who got chosen to be the cover model for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. This year, the honor goes to blond bombshell, Kate Upton.
For weeks, experts, fans, and the models themselves speculated on who would be chosen, only to wait for David Letterman to reveal the cover on his show the night before the issue is released. Letterman does it in grand style, pulling a drape off a billboard sitting high over Broadway, across from the Ed Sullivan Theater, where the show is taped.
Upton, the 19 year old St. Joseph, MI native, was also was featured in last year's issue, in which she appeared for the first time, earning her the Rookie of the Year Award.
Upton is wearing a barely there red string bikini, which she stated, "was one of the first photos from the first shoot. It was my favorite swimsuit. I felt sexy in it but confident," reported the Washington Post.
Sports Illustrated has been doing Swimsuit Editions since 1964, featuring Babette March on the cover. This year's issue will feature 18 models and six athletes in nothing but body paint, including U.S. Women's soccer star Alex Morgan.
