article imageJohn Goodman and Roseanne Barr to reunite for new NBC series

By Leigh Goessl     Feb 12, 2012 in Entertainment
It appears Roseanne Barr and John Goodman may be teaming up again for another sitcom. Reports say Goodman is very close to inking a deal with a new show.
The duo found high success previously on the popular Roseanne sitcom.
In Oct. 2011, Hollywood Reporter had reported Barr landed her new sitcom at NBC. Last month, it was reported the new show, titled Downwardly Mobile, would be piloted.
The series focuses on Barr's character, who is a proprietor of a mobile home park. Her character has been described as a "surrogate mother" to the residents living there "during an challenging economic time."
Now reports are surfacing that Goodman and the new show have been in heavy negotiations and are rumored to be close to sealing a deal. Deadline reported Goodman's character will be a man working at the mobile home park and has a "buddy" relationship with Barr's character.
The duo found terrific success on Roseanne. The show, which featured Barr and Goodman playing a working class couple dealing with life's struggles, enjoyed a nine-year run from 1988-1997 with several different award nominations and wins.
Barr and Goodman are not the only reunites for the show. Roseanne writer and executive producer Eric Gilliland is listed as a co-creator of Downwardly Mobile. The territory explored in the new show sounds as if its pretty similar to the stuff written for Roseanne. If this is the case, odds are it might take off and become a series.
On Roseanne the two actors showed a lot of on-screen chemistry together, which also bodes well for Downwardly Mobile's potential.

Goodman told the Huffington Post last month, "I wouldn't mind being on a series again. You get tired living out of a suitcase."
If current media reports are true, Goodman may just get his wish.
Goodman and Barr are not the only Roseanne alumni to reunite in recent years. CBS' popular Big Bang Theory sitcom stars Johnny Galecki, who played Roseanne's daughter's boyfriend and eventual son-in-law. On Big Bang Theory Galecki has so far been reunited with former Roseanne cast mates Sara Gilbert and Laurie Metcalf on the hit series.
It's not been said how Barr plans to balance a new show along with an election campaign if she is selected as the Green Party's nomination to run for president this year. Earlier this month Digital Journal reported on Barr's intentions to campaign. The Green Party will decide in July who will represent the party in the 2012 election.
Last week The Wrap (via Reuters) reported California plans to add Barr to the state's primary ballot.
