Simon Cowell, co-creator of several musical competition shows such as American Idol, Britain's Got Talent and X-Factor, is ready to cross the musical threshold into the realm of clubs and vinyl records as he searches for the world's next great DJ.
Voices and musical scores are apparently not the only thing Simon Cowell is good at judging; in a joint effort between his own SYCO Entertainment, and Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, Cowell is set to make the leap from singing and wailing to scratching and spinning.
According to
The Wrap, Cowell, who has been a judge on
American Idol and
X-Factor, is joining efforts with the Smiths as well as Sony Pictures Television to launch a series in search of the next great DJ Star.
"DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show,"
Cowell said in regards to his latest endeavor. Broadcast partners in both the United States and the United Kingdom are anticipated for announcement soon.
As the
Telegraph indicates, the 52-year-old Cowell seems to feel it is time to expand on his empire already wrought with notes and time signatures and add something new and quite possibly unexpected to his musical repertoire.
Cowell's intense excitement over the not-yet-titled project was boldly reflected in his
Twitter status where he said: "Excited to announce new DJ show. I will NOT be judging this show. Excited to be working with
@jadapsmith. Stay tuned!"
