article imageOp-Ed: Rush Limbaugh says 'Ron Paul sounds like an Islamic terrorist'

By Katerina Nikolas     Jan 25, 2012 in Politics
Ron Paul's non-interventionist views on foreign policy apparently make him sound like an "Islamic terrorist" according to radio host Rush Limbaugh.
Radio host Rush Limbaugh took to the airwaves to lambaste Ron Paul, following the TSA incident involving the detention of Paul's, son Senator Rand Paul. In an attempt to smear the 76-year-old GOP presidential candidate Limbaugh said "if this had been Ron Paul, you couldn’t really blame the TSA...You have to admit Ron Paul almost sounds like an Islamic terrorist sometimes.”(Current)
Ron Paul's non-interventionist stance on foreign policy makes him a target for such outrageous remarks from those who oppose his views. His understanding of how U.S. government foreign policy has implications abroad which incite terrorism is increasingly gaining ground with his supporters, making him the most popular candidate amongst military veterans.
His opposition to the loss of civil liberties by increasingly creeping security measures that encroach on personal freedom has to be criticized by those whose interests are served by constant warmongering propaganda which lays the path for yet another destructive military mission, with Iran the next target. Limbaugh's latest comments on Paul miss their mark though, making Limbaugh the laughing stock.
The Examiner, whilst critical of Paul's domestic policies, rushed to his defense over Limbaugh's remarks, saying "the one area that Paul shouldn't be criticized is his foreign policy of cutting defense spending and bringing the troops home."
Prison Planet, which describes Limbaugh as "slime time," commented on Limbaugh's remarks, saying "Anyone who isn’t for a million plus dead Iraqis is a terrorist. In Limbaugh’s world, anyone who concludes that bombing the living hell out of a country might make the people there hate us is a terrorist."
The notion that Ron Paul can be compared to a terrorist does of course give weight to TSA actions when they have been criticized for employing intrusive searches on the elderly and sick. After all, Paul's frail and affable appearance obviously make him look dangerous.
