article image'Thank (bleep) that's over' - Gervais won't host Globes again

By Abigail Prendergast     Jan 19, 2012 in Entertainment
Ricky Gervais has spoken publicly after the most recent Golden Globes that he will never take on hosting the awards ceremony again.
Ricky Gervais, who hosted the 2012 Golden Globe Awards says he will not be persuaded to take on such an endeavor ever again. According to the New York Post, Gervais pointed out on his blog that "I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It's like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do."
Gervais isn't the only one who seems content with the decision, as Reuters explains: "Critics were lukewarm toward his performance, saying his jokes on Sunday were less harsh compared to 2011, and the show suffered a slight dip in ratings."
Oddly enough, the creator of The Office seems to think of it as his greatest performance ever at the event, blogging: "It was by far my favorite of the three hosting stints."
Taking jabs at celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jodie Foster, Johnny Depp and pop star, Justin Bieber, Gervais pointed out that the "crowd were great this year too. I think they finally worked out that my gags only seemed rude and nasty but were actually not too scary at all. Or they were just drunker."
Gervais' humor has been seen as lazy and lukewarm by viewers especially in his native England. In an opinion article on The Telegraph, Gervais' skits were not looked very highly upon and pointed the finger at Americans for embracing mediocrity.
The article said that Gervais' "schoolyard' take on humor - at least this time around - was so childish it would be best that he resigned from ever hosting the event again.
Ultimately, critics of the performance just did not think Ricky was up to his game this year. While he oddly enough seemed to enjoy his hosting position, not a lot of others felt the same.
