Los Angeles - The nominees for the Writers Guild of America Awards this year have been officially announced. Winners will be announced at the Writers Guild Awards on Feb. 19 during simultaneous ceremonies in Hollywood and New York.
Since 1949, the outstanding achievements in writing for film, television and radio are honoured at the annual Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards. Past winners include the likes of Woody Allen, Steve Martin, James L. Brooks, Warren Beatty, Mel Brooks and many others.
On Thursday, the WGA presented the nominees for the 2012 WGA Awards. Some of the highlights included Allen garnering his 20th nod for Original Screenplay for his recent successful picture, “Midnight in Paris.” Diablo Cody, best known for her work on “Juno,” was nominated for “Young Adult.”
Academy Award winners Alexander Payne and Steve Zaillian were nominated for Adapted Screenplay. Both writers have received WGA awards in the past – Payne for “Sideways” and Zaillian for “Schindler’s List.”
The winners will be announced on Feb. 19 during a simultaneous broadcast in Hollywood and New York.
