article image2012 Iowa Caucuses Results: Mitt Romney narrowly beats Santorum

Des Moines - The 2012 Iowa Caucuses are underway and nearly a quarter of the votes are coming in. Although the numbers are preliminary, there is a three-way tie between Congressman Ron Paul, Governor Mitt Romney and former Senator Rick Santorum.
After several debates, tours across the states, numerous attack ads and a rollercoaster of frontrunners, Jan. 3 has arrived and hundreds of thousands of Iowans are casting their votes for the next Republican nominee.
Iowa kicks off the Republican primaries with their caucuses. The results are coming in and entrance polls suggest that it will be a tight three-way race between Texas Congressman Ron Paul, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
Supporters of each candidate delivered their three-minute speech and the voters selected their candidate.
Below are the preliminary results of the 2012 Iowa Caucuses.
Please note that the numbers will be updated frequently throughout the night.
Michele Bachmann: 6,073 votes – five percent
Newt Gingrich: 16,251 votes – 13 percent
Jon Huntsman: 745 votes – one percent
Ron Paul: 26,219 votes – 21 percent
Rick Perry: 12,604 votes – 10 percent
Mitt Romney: 30,015 votes – 25 percent
Rick Santorum: 30,007 votes – 25 percent
99 percent of the polling numbers have come in thus far.
